Some of our workshops will be offered online in a live, synchronous format.

For in-person workshops, COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place. Average class size of 3-5 students.

Abstract Colour Pattern Handwriting Creative Writing

Creative Writing with Dr. Piudik

 

Learn to craft your own flash fiction, short stories and poetry. We’ll explore different genres, read a variety of models and write original pieces. There will also be an option of creating an online zine. All you'll need is a pen and paper - or a laptop - and your powers of observation and imagination.

Frequency: 2x/week for 6 weeks

Pricing: $400/student

Option for online or in-person classes, depending on student preference and ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

Philosophy and Debate Workshops with Mr. Glinos

These workshops will focus on teaching students various philosophical ideas and analyzing these ideas as a group via debate. Each class will be centred around a philosophical question, contextualizing the question in relation to the greater history of philosophy and briefly learning some of the responses provided by previous philosophers. Learners will then be divided into groups, debate the question using a British Parliamentary style format, and formulate their own opinions about the question.

Frequency: 2 hrs once per week for six weeks

Pricing: $200/student

Option for online or in-person classes, depending on student preference and ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

Speech and Debate Workshops with Mr. Glinos

 

These workshops will focus on teaching learners the skills necessary to speak and debate in front of an audience. After studying the various modes, devices, and styles of rhetoric utilized by great orators, participants will apply their knowledge by writing and delivering argumentative speeches in front of their peers. After being trained in the style of British Parliamentary style debate, they will practice their persuasive skills in moderated online debates.

Frequency: 2 hrs once per week for six weeks

Pricing: $200/student

Learn to Dye Yarn & Knit a Hat with Ms Bushnik

A yarn-dyeing and hat-knitting combo workshop. Great for both beginners and experienced knitters.
We'll experiment with a variety of yarn-dyeing techniques (hand-painting, speckling, kettle dyeing...) to create your ideal yarn colour, then we'll use your customized yarn to knit a hat!

Frequency: 2 afternoons/week; 4 classes total

Pricing: $150/student including materials

In-person classes. If ongoing COVID-19 restrictions prevent in-person classes, students may choose to either participate in an online version of this workshop or receive a full refund.

Chainmail Workshop with Ms Redding

 

Make your own chainmail jewelry! Learn ancient chain making techniques including chainmail, box chain, byzantine, full persian weave, helm chain and round box chain.

Workshop will take place over two days on

Saturday, August 7th and Sunday August 8th, 11am-3pm.

Pricing: $200/student including materials

Cooking and Baking Classes with Ms Presutto

Each session we'll gather online to cook or bake something delicious together. We'll start with a basic recipe, but as we work, students will learn the role that different ingredients play in the recipe and have a chance to tailor their creations to their own tastes. They'll also develop crucial kitchen skills such as proper measuring, knife safety, using their senses, and of course proper clean up!

Frequency: Twice per week (2-2.5 hours per session) for 4 weeks in July.

Pricing: $250/student plus groceries

Beginners Oil Painting Class with Ms Redding

 

Learn the basics of oil painting!
Over the course of four weeks you will build a composition from start to finish. To start, you will learn how to prepare and stretch a canvas. We'll discuss different types of oil paint and mediums. Learners will get to try out different applications like scumbling, wet on wet, glazing, impasto and how to use a palette knife. 

Oils take a while to dry so this workshop will meet

once a week in July with possible extension into August.

Pricing: $375/student including supply kit

Mixed Media Encaustic Workshops with Ms Redding

 

Encaustic painting is a 3000 year old mixed media technique that involves using heated wax to which coloured pigments have been added.
Learn different encaustic techniques such as glazing, fuzing, inlay, pouring and scraping. We will also use collage, image transfer, embedded objects, stencils, taping.

Frequency: 4 hours Saturday + 4 hours Sunday

July 24th and 25th

Latin Club with Dr. Fabbro

 

Apart from being an exciting language, Latin is one of the best ways to learn grammar, improve English vocabulary, and build a basis to learn other international languages. It is also the language of magic, isn’t it? Beginners and experienced Latinists welcome. Beginners will meet separately for the first two weeks before joining the rest of the club.

Frequency: 1 hour 3x/week for 6 weeks

Pricing: $400/student

Class format remains open depending on student preferences and ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, with the possibility of classes occurring online, at our CSI location, and/or outside.

Charcoal Landscape Studies with Ms Redding

 

Explore the landscapes of Toronto through drawing! Each week we will meet at different locations around the city. You will learn different charcoal techniques and how to work from life.

Frequency: 2 hrs, 1x/week, 4 weeks in July.

Pricing: $250/student including materials

Film Club with Mr Alsop

 

Film Club will offer students an opportunity to spread their creative wings. We will be watching and discussing a curated collection of seminal films - modern and classic - while concurrently creating our own short films, and learning important practical filmmaking elements.

This club will give students opportunities to learn techniques and further their cultural knowledge of film studies.

Frequency: 2x/week for 4 weeks in August

Pricing: $250/student

Drypoint Etching Workshop with Ms Redding​

 

Drypoint is a printmaking technique of the intaglio family where the image is incised into a plate with a hard pointed needle. 


Drypoint etching is a fun way to learn etching techniques. Using different mark making tools you will etch your image and walk away with a few prints to take home! 

Frequency: Single day workshop, 5 hours

Physics 11 (SPH3U) with Mr Cheung

 

This is a grade 11 course for credit.

French Language Club with Dr. Piudik

 

The French club welcomes all students who are interested in learning more about French language and francophone cultures. We will explore both through a variety of activities, including games, movies, music, art, literature and cooking.

 

Frequency: 2x/week for 6 weeks
